Maupay, Webster, Gross: Top 10 highest-paid Brighton players

The casual ups and downs have finally led another English club Brighton to be promoted to the Premier League, after finishing second in the EFL Championship during the 2016/17 campaign. Since now the club had the results above the top 10 of the league list. The latter can be connected the financial condition of the team as well.  Brighton’s income was £5 million for the whole season ten years ago, now increasing to £143 million by 2019.  However, the club expenses still remain below the average, compared to other Premier League teams.  Ahead of the club’s new challenges we introduce wagebill list of the club.  Let’s see who are the highest-paid players of Brighton and how they could contribute to the Seagulls’ game during the last campaign. 
  1. Davy Propper

  • Annual Salary: £2,340,000
Propper has joined Brighton from PSV Eindhoven in August 2017. During the 2019/20 campaign he has made 18 Premier League appearances, scoring one goal and assisting once for the club.  The midfielder’s contract expires in 2021. 
  1. Jurgen Locadia

Locadia has joined Graham Potter’s side during the winter transfer window in 2018. Now the striker is playing on loan for TSG Hoffenheim, joining them from August 2019. The 26-year-old will return to the English club in summer 2020. However, he is possible to stay with the German side, as those have the option to buy the Dutchman. During the 2019/20 campaign the player managed to play just two times in the Premier League, having no goals or assists.  Locadia’s contract with Brighton expires in 2022.

Izquierdo has joined Brighton from Club Brugge in August 2017. Since then he has made 47 Premier League appearances, scoring 5 times. However, the midfielder hasn’t played a single Premier League game during the 2019/20 campaign.  Izquierdo’s contract expires in 2021. 
  1. Lewis Dunk

Dunk has started his playing career at Brighton U18. In October 2013 he moved on a loan transfer to Bristol City and returned to the Seagulls a month later in November. During the 2019/20 campaign the 28-year-old has made 19 Premier League appearances, scoring 2 times and assisting 3 times for the team.  Dunk’s last contract was extended in 2018 and expires in 2023.

Webster has joined Brighton from Bristol City in August 2019. Since then he has already made 16 Premier League appearances, scoring 3 times for the club.  The Englishman’s contract expires in 2023.

The French international has moved to Amex from Brentford during the summer transfer window in 2019. Since then he has made 21 Premier League appearances, netting 7 times and assisting once for the club. He is the goalscorer of the team during the 2019/20 campaign.  Maupay’s contract expires in 2023.

Montoya has joined the The Seagulls from Valencia in August 2018. During the 2019/20 campaign the Spain international has made 18 appearances for the club in the Premier League, having no scoring goals and assisting once, while playing against Norwich City. Montoya’s contract expires in 2022.

Jahanbakhsh has joined the club from AZ Alkmaar in July 2018. During the 2019/20 season he has played just 3 times in the Premier League, having scored 2 goals against Bournemouth and Chelsea.  The 26-year-old’s contract expires in 2023.

The German international has joined Brighton from FC Ingolstadt during the summer transfer window in 2017. He has made 18 Premier League appearances during the 2019/20 campaign, scoring once against Everton and assisting 3 times.  Groß’s contract was extended in June 2018 and expires in 2022.
  1. Tudor Baluta

  • Position: Defensive Midfield
  • Annual Salary: £4,670,000
Baluta has joined the club during the January transfer window in 2019.  He has spent the first half of the year, playing on loan for FC Viitorul from February 1 to June 30. During the rest of the year the 20-year-old has totally made just 8 appearances: 5 times in the Premier League 2, 2 times in the EFL Trophy, 1 time in the EFL Cup, yet being out of the action for the Premier League clashes. He didn’t score or assist for Brighton during his playing time. However, now he is the highest-paid player of the Seagulls.
