Many rumors, many left backs.. Chelsea’s transfer news from May 8

It’s not a secret that Chelsea are looking for a left back in the transfer market. Frank Lampard, who took charge of the Blues before the start of 2019/20 season, was forced to rotate players in this position.  Marcos Alonso, Emerson and even Cesar Azpilicueta played as left backs, but still, Lampard is reportedly not satisfied. Chelsea boss wants a new left back, which has caused the media to report about several players.  It’s hard to evaluate which player will eventually join the West London club. Ben Chilwell from Leicester City seems to be the best choice. Fans love the rumors, linking the 23-year-old left back with Chelsea. Yet, with the coronavirus pandemic and its financial causes, clubs would be forced not to go big in the market.  Chilwell deal could cost Blues around £40 mln. The player himself is reportedly keen to join Lampard, but it all depends on the price Foxes will demand. Being a key part of Brendan Rodgers’ team, Chilwell has emerged as one of the most prolific defenders in the league. No surprise that Lampard wants this type of player, capable of both attacking and defending.  Still, Chilwell needs to improve. His individual duels against Trent Alexander-Arnold and Riyad Mahrez surely affected his price, but not Chelsea’s interest. According to the reports from the Spanish Media, Blues have opened talks with Leicester to sign the player.  Good, but confusing. Another report from Foot Mercato (via The Sun) suggests Chelsea will switch their attention to AS Monaco left back Fode Ballo-Toure. Monaco fans surely miss their great team, that won the League 1 and reached the Champions League semis. At this point, 2016/17 champions are struggling in the bottom half of the table.  However, there are players that managed to shine under those harsh circumstances. Ballo-Toure’s among them. The 23-year-old starlet has recorded 20+ appearances this season and has become a target for the Premier League clubs. Chelsea will face a competition from West Ham United for Ballo-Toure. And still, the French international remains a plan B, if Chilwell deal fails.  Ballo Toure in action for Monaco (Image - Monaco official website) Finally, in case there will be no budget for the maret, Chelsea could consider a swap deal with Juventus. Bianconeri have experience of exchanging players during the past seasons. They did it with Manchester City, swapping Danilo with Joao Cancelo and Roma, swapping Luca Pellegrini with Leonardo Spinazzola.  According to the Italian media, Juventus could offer Alex Sandro for Emeron. The latest could rejoin his ex-coach Maurizio Sarri, while Lampard could get the Brazilian star, who is an already well-known qualified left back in the European football.
