Manchester United’s decision not to sign Erling Haaland explained

Every time after Erling Haaland makes an appearance for Borussia Dortmund hearts of Manchester United supporters breaking into pieces. The player was on the verge to join United in the January transfer window, but instead, he joined the Bundesliga side. Haaland, who scored 28 goals in 22 appearances for Austrian outfit RB Salzburg, has scored 11 goals and has created an assist in just seven games for the Bundesliga outfit. As soon as the signing was made United was very quick to brief the English media. The club said they pulled out of the race to sign the Norway striker because of a buyout clause and suggestions the player's agent, Mino Raiola, wanted a cut of any future transfer fee. The super-agent confessed that United were in pole position to land the forward but simply claimed Haaland chose Dortmund over the Reds. "The club that he had the most direct contact with him was United," Raiola told The Telegraph. "They spoke to him the most. Everybody had the chance to talk to him in person. We let that happen especially when he knows Ole. "Clearly he [Erling Haaland] felt that at this moment it was not the right step in his career. There is nothing against Manchester United or Ole. “He chose Borussia Dortmund ahead of them and other clubs and I’m very happy because he is going to the club he wanted to go to and that is best for him right now. If he wanted to go to Manchester United I would have been obliged to take him to Manchester United but he did not." "When you are 19 then maybe you prefer not to go to the Premier League," he added. "The offer from Manchester United was good. It was not about the economics. It is just the player chose Borussia Dortmund at this stage of his career." When asked strictly about United's economical reason behind not signing Haaland, Raiola added: "I do not know if Manchester United are briefing this but if they are then they are covering their own loss and that I find strange and disappointing."
