Manchester United urged to sign upgrades on Scott McTominay and Fred

Stan Collymore has urged Manchester United to sign upgrades on Scott McTominay and Fred in the summer. The former Liverpool and Newcastle striker has told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he will only get the best out of Bruno Fernandes by handing him support in the form of some more accomplished defensive midfielders. Fernandes has netted once and provided two assists in his first three Premier League outings, but Collymore thinks he won’t be able to improve further unless he is given more freedom. Both McTominay and Fred have impressed this term in the absence of Paul Pogba, with Solskjaer keen to hand more chances to younger players rather than the likes of Nemanja Matic. In his column for The Mirror, Collymore wrote: “Bruno Fernandes looks a top-quality player and exactly what Manchester United need. “But Ed Woodward and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must now add an upgrade on Scott McTominay and Fred in the defensive midfield who will allow him to go and play and be as creative as he can be. “I know we’ve criticised United’s recruitment team in the past and the nagging question over the signing of Fernandes is: Why didn’t the get him in last summer? “Because who knows what he might have done in the last six or seven months with a full pre-season.” Source- Daily Star
