Manchester United told to make surprise signing and ruin Chelsea plans

Former Liverpool striker John Barnes has urged Manchester United to beat Chelsea to the signing of West Ham ace Delcan Rice. The Blues' boss Frank Lampard has highlighted Rice as a potential recruit as he looks to complete his squad overhaul. The 21-year-old has been utilised as a holding midfielder over the past few years but while he was a centre-back while part of Chelsea's academy. However, Barnes thinks Rice should move to Old Trafford instead to further his development. "Regarding the ongoing transfer rumours on Declan Rice, I am not sure that he would come into Manchester United and take over that defensive midfield role, especially as Nemanja Matic has recently signed a two-year contract," he said. "However, United must look to the future and Rice is a good young English player and would be a good signing for United. "Of course, he’s a West Ham player and from his own point of view if he must move on, I think Manchester United would be a good place for him." Source- Daily and Sunday Express
