Manchester United confident of signing Solskjaer’s "new priority" after Donny van de Beek deal

Manchester United are confident to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, according to ESPN. The Red Devils are close to their first major transfer, with Donny van de Beek set to join from Ajax for a £40m fee. The deal is almost done, while United are trying to bring new playing options for defence as Solskjaer wants more competition for Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof, strengthening the centre-back in the summer. The report claims United have identified the 21-year-old as one of their main targets, following the club's failed trial to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho. Upamecano has been a regular player for his side, since joining the German club back in 2017 and helped them reach to the Champions League semi-final. The defender has signed a new deal with the club until 2023. There are suggestions that he has release clause of €42m (£37.6m), which can be triggered at the end of the 2020/21 season, however Solskjaer wants the club to go for the player now.
