Manchester United chief John Murtough backed to sign 'young Cavani' in summer window

Manchester United need to sign a "young Edinson Cavani", according to former England boss Glenn Hoddle. Cavani is out of contract at the end of the season. The Uruguayan turned 34 last month. And Hoddle believes signing a striker would be top of his wish list if he was manager of the Red Devils and that Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland would be the ideal solution. If that is not possible, then signing a younger but similar forward to Cavani is what Hoddle would go for. Hoddle told Premier League Productions: "Yeah [a striker] would be [priority], yeah. I think it's got to be. You need a young Cavani. You've got Cavani at the wrong time. Five or six years ago, his movement, his hold-up play, everything he had and he's got still. "When he plays for United I see a different United team, even now at his age. And he's not that old, what is he, 33? So Haaland would be the one but how are you going to get him? Have the days gone where if United were in for you, 'oh I'm going to Man United'? It was Real Madrid or Man United. "Those days unfortunately for United have gone, they've got to build that up again. But Haaland would be on everyone's lips, everyone would want him."
