Manchester City hope Sergio Aguero returns for Champions League restart in August

Pep Guardiola hopes Sergio Aguero will be back for Champions League restart in August. The Argentina international underwent knee surgery on Wednesday, which is expected to keep him out for the remainder of the domestic season. Guardiola has not ruled out the striker returning in time for the Champions League in August. He is even expected to play a part in the second leg of their round of 16 tie with Real Madrid. The City manager said: “Of course the impact is big, so to win Champions League you have to arrive in the best moment in the best condition as possible. But at the same time the situation is what it is, and sometimes when this happens teams make a step forward with the rest of the players to solve this situation. So that is what we have to do. “We have to wait and hopefully he can help us against Madrid, and if we’re good enough to go through, maybe for the next rounds. If we are able to knock out Real Madrid, we will see. But at the same time we have to move forward with the players that we have, take the desire and the wish without him.” Guardiola added: “Aguero had a problem and struggle in the last month and unfortunately against Burnley he broke a part of the knee. Ramon Cugat is going to fix him and he is going to be back soon but in general we are quite well.” Source: Evening Standard
