Lukaku, Havertz, Kepa: Record-Breaking Chelsea Transfers

Chelsea are on their way to make their record breaking signing, as they are keen to secure a move for Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan. The Blues are known for their big-money spendings, as well as wise transfer strategy, operated by club director Marina Granovskaia. Last summer, despite the huge financial damage done by the coronavirus pandemic, Chelsea managed to spend big, bringing in six players and also broke a transfer record. This summer, the west London side have made just one signing, bringing in goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli from Fulham for just €2.5m. However, Chelsea still have an unfinished business in the transfer market, as they want to secure a striker signing, with Lukaku heavily linked. Reports claim the transfer is very close and the Blues are ready to break yet another transfer record. So ahead of Lukaku's potential return to Stamford Bridge, let's take a look at the record-breaking signings Chelsea have made.

Ben Chilwell, £45m

The 24-year-old left-back became a key member of the squad under both Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel, and helped them reach to the FA Cup final, as well as win the Champions League.

Timo Werner, £47m

However, his contribution for every game was huge, which helped him stay in the starting lineup. This season, after winning the Champions League, Werner would be expected to do even more than last season and help the Blues win yet another silverware.

Jorginho, £51m

9 Chelsea players who could be sold this summer as Thomas Tuchel rebuilds the squad Getty Images Jorginho undoubtedly had an incredible season this term, helping Chelsea win the Champions League and becoming Euro 2020 champions with Italy. Since his move to west London from Napoli, back in 2018, the Italian became an essential player in the midfield and will still be as the club have no intentions to sell him.

Fernando Torres, £52m

However, Torres' time at the Bridge was not as good as expected, as after three seasons he was loaned to AC Milan, with eventually the Serie A side permanently signing him. During his time at north London, Torres scored 45 goals and provided 35 assists, won the Champions League, the FA Cup and the Europa League titles.

Christian Pulisic, £57m

Alvaro Morata, £59m

Getty Images Morata made a move to Chelsea from Real Madrid in the summer of  2017. However, after scoring only 24 goals in his 72 games, he was loaned to Atletico Madrid, which eventually led to a £30m permanent move.

Kepa Arrizabalaga, £72m

4 Chelsea players will be allowed to leave the club this summer Getty Images Arrizabalaga's transfer was record-breaking not only for Chelsea but also for world football. The Spaniard became the most expensive goalkeeper, as he made a west London move from Athletic Bilbao. However, his form dropped and his performances were not delightful, which caused the Blues to look for a new keeper, and last summer Edouard Mendy arrived at Stamford Bridge to become the club's number one choice stopper.

Kai Havertz, £72m
