Louis Van Gaal claims Solskjaer’s success is due to predecessor Mourinho

Former Manchester United head coach Louis van Gaal has made a stunning claim that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s success at Manchester United is all down to Jose Mourinho. Caretaker boss Solskjaer, who took over from Mourinho in December, is set to be appointed Unted boss on a permanent basis after winning 14 of his 19 games in charge. But Van Gaal claimed that Solskjaer’s impressive run must go to his successor Mourinho for the work he did in his two-and-a-half spell at Old Trafford. "The coach after me [Mourinho] changed to park-the-bus tactics and played on the counter,” said Van Gaal. "But the way Manchester United are playing now is not the way Sir Alex Ferguson played. It is defensive, counter-attacking football. “If you like it, you like it. If you think it is more exciting than my boring attacking, OK. But it is not my truth. "Solskjaer has just lost twice [three times] and he has to manage that. It is very important that Manchester United qualifies for the Champions League, as it was when I was manager.”
