Liverpool loanee Taiwo Awoniyi was taken to hospital after suffering a head injury while playing for Mainz in the Bundesliga, according to reports from Germany. The 22-year-old had to be taken off on a stretcher after a clash of heads with Augsburg defender Felix Uduokhai.
Doctors put Awoniyi's neck in a brace, with the match delayed for several minutes before he left the field. He was taken off the pitch on a stretcher.
Awoniyi joined Liverpool in 2015 having played in the Nigeria teams that won both the Under-17 World Cup in 2013 and the African Under-20 Championships two years later. His most productive spell came at Belgian side Mouscron last season when he scored 11 goals in 16 games.
