Liverpool are in a race against time to agree a deal with Schalke for their defender Ozan Kabak on the January transfer window deadline day. The Reds have been having injury problems at the backline as they are currently without long-term injuries Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
Kabak will prepare to undergo a medical in Germany today, if a deal can be agreed, according to
Sky Sports. The report states that the deal is complicated because the Bundesliga side are unwilling to let the defender go without first signing a replacement. In Germany the transfer window closes at 5pm GMT.
Sky Sports report that the 20-year-old's replacement has been identified by Schalke. The Reds are working on a loan deal for Kabak with an option to buy in the summer transfer window.
Liverpool will pay a loan fee of around £2.5m.
Jurgen Klopp's side are expected to announce the signing of Ben Davies today from Preston after a deal has been agreed.
