Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson names top five teammates from career so far

Jordan Henderson has chosen the five best players he had shared a dressing room with, including several former Liverpool stars and an unlikely selection from the Reds' bitter rivals. Though he plays alongside world-class stars such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk, he was not allowed to choose any of his current Reds teammates in his selections. Asked by Rio Ferdinand to name his five selections, Henderson told The Locker Room: "Obviously Stevie [Steven Gerrard], what he done for me personally and everything about him, he'd be right at the top. [Luis] Suarez was a born winner and never got injured. Even when he was injured he would play. Never was in the treatment room. "Just that mentality, loved playing football, always wanted to play whether he was injured or had a niggle or a knock. His mentality was so good. He had to change his boots, because his foot was so swollen he couldn't get his boot on. So he wore Stevie's boots for one game and scored a worldie of a free-kick. "I just thought 'wow, this guy is something else'. It was just frightening. Raheem [Sterling]. I saw him at the start of his journey and it's been incredible till now for him. I'm sure he can still improve and get better, so I'm excited to see what's to come from him. "[Philippe] Coutinho So good as a player, technically. Again just loved playing football, wanted to be out there enjoying playing football. Such a top player and a great lad as well." After naming four former Liverpool teammates who have since left Anfield, Henderson named a surprise player as his fifth selection. He added: "[Wayne] Rooney. Tough for a Liverpool man but we'll open it up a bit so my United fans don't hate us as much. He could do everything. What a player. Great person as well in the dressing room, always having a laugh and a joke, made you feel very comfortable in the squad, always willing to talk to everyone, whether you're a senior player or young player, such a big influence and such a huge career. To be able to play with him for England was special for me." Source: The Mirror
