Lewis Hamilton 'grumpy' over Mercedes contract as doubts cast over F1 star's future

Lewis Hamilton is "grumpy" over his new Mercedes deal, according to Sky Sports F1 expert Martin Brundle. Brundle has been filming plenty of content with the driver ahead of the new season. Hamilton penned a one-year extension with the Silver Arrows. The 36-year-old is hoping to win an eighth world title before deciding he if wants to continue with Mercedes. "We did a couple of features with him that we will play out through the year on Sky F1," Brundle told Sky Sports. "He was very generous but a bit grumpy actually, I thought generally. It’s interesting that his right-hand man, Marc Hynes, is no longer working with him. I sensed he possibly wasn’t super-happy with the way the negotiations have worked out at Mercedes." Mercedes are expected to continue their dominance. But Brundle believes the likes of Red Bull and Ferrari will be able to claw back some of the deficit. "Generally, I sense we're expecting a tighter season," Brundle wrote in his Sky Sports column. "The regulations are also hauling back the top teams in terms of the amount of money they can spend, the resource they have and the amount of time they have in the wind tunnel. "Ferrari, for example, have 12.5 per cent more time in the wind tunnel than Mercedes because they finished sixth in the World Championship last year. So, the pack is really going to be closed up in the next year or two, starting with 2021. "Yes, it's a carry-over and a holding pattern because the new-style cars have been delayed to 2022, but there's excitement and a general expectation that, with the new Pirelli tyres that are heavier and slower as well, perhaps there will be a reset."
