Leicester City trio to leave in January

Leicester City trio Papy Mendy, Daniel Amartey and Filip Benkovic may leave this January transfer window with permanent or loan moves on the cards. All three of them have made just one appearance this season. Mendy was a late substitute in the clash with Sheffield United, and most likely will leave this January to get more game-time. His departure may be a permanent one as his contract with the Foxes expires next summer. Amartey has not played a competitive match since suffering an ankle injury a year ago and probably will leave on loan. Benkovic has not been involved in a matchday squad since his return from Celtic, with Jonny Evans, Caglar Soyuncu and Wes Morgan ahead of him in the centre-back pecking order. “It’s been difficult for those guys (Mendy and Amartey),” said Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers. “Papy is in the last year of his contract. I have to say, him and Daniel and guys that haven’t even featured in the squad, a lot of the time they’ve been amazing, their mentality, their professionalism. Daniel, coming back off a long injury, maybe could have gone out on loan but I needed him to be around. We’ll have a look at that in January for him. He’s still there, he’s very much in touching distance of the squad, but hasn’t featured. For Filip, it’s a very difficult position for him. He’s fighting every day to be fitter and stronger. We’ll see where he’s at in January, whether he needs games with more pressure, or whether he stays and is that support player should anything happen.”
