Latest on Emiliano Sala: Police will decide whether to keep searching him

Since the aircraft went missing near La Manche, rescuers are trying to find Emiliano Sala and the pilot, whose name his David Ibbotson. According to latest reports, the search on Wednesday has been postponed because of the darkness. Rescuers’ focus is on 280 sq mile area north of Guernsey. The Guardian writes: “Earlier on Wednesday, Guernsey police had raised hopes by saying searchers were focusing on the possibility that the pair had made it into a life raft. But some of those involved in the rescue said that even if this was the case, there was little chance they would have survived since Monday night in cold, choppy conditions.” According to other reports, Sala have sent a voicemail to his father, saying: “I’m here on a plane that looks like it’s about to fall apart, and I’m going to Cardiff … If in an hour and a half you have no news from me, I don’t know if they are going to send someone to look for me because they cannot find me, but you know … Dad, how scared am I!” Sala has signed a contract with Cardiff City, and should have moved to Wales from FC Nantes for £13 m. He has met teammates in France before joining Premier League side. Argentine should have been in Cardiff on Monday.
