Kevin De Bruyne makes Premier League title claim after opener win

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has made a Premier League title claim after 3-1 opener win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday. Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher asked De Bruyne how vital it was for City to start their season well to prevent the Reds repeating the 18-point-gap at the top of the table, having already won two games in the Premier League before a ball was kicked at the Etihad. The City star labelled the new campaign as 'weird' but admitted if the title race turns out to be anything like last year, his club will need to be at their absolute best. He said: "It's obviously hard, it's a weird season but we know you need to start well. "Wolves have been a bogey team for us, so to come here and do this performance is encouraging because we're missing a few players. But the team did really well and the only thing we can do is play game-by-game. Thursday is another one and we'll try to do our best. "We know if the pace is the same as the last three years then it's going to be a hard job but we want to fight against them. We need to fight against them. We make each other better and for me that's what sport is all about." Source- Liverpool ECHO Join us on Telegram
