Kai Havertz has sent a special message to Fikayo Tomori on Instagram.
The Germany international became the club's record signing after agreeing an initial £72m fee with Bayer Leverkusen, but upon his unveiling he hadn't been allocated a squad number.
Interestingly, since breaking into the first-team picture at Leverkusen in the 2017/18 season, Havertz had worn the no.29 shirt.
However, the incumbent number 29 at Chelsea when his transfer was confirmed last week was Tomori, but the central defender has agreed to vacate the shirt number to grant Havertz his wish. And the club record signing is grateful for the gesture.
So much so that he sent a message to Tomori on
Instagram. He wrote:
"Thank you @fikayotomori."
