Jurgen Klopp has revealed what he told his team’s players after shock Champions League defeat to Red Star Belgrade.
The Reds were beaten by Red Star 2-0 and the next morning Klopp had a talk with the team and reminded to be in a positive position despite the loss.
‘[It was] more of a general meeting. It was about our situation in general,’ Klopp said at his pre-Fulham press conference on Friday morning. ‘[We spoke about] what we have to expect from ourselves. It’s a very positive situation. The season – points-wise – is really successful but it doesn’t feel like that. ‘Why? Because the comparisons from last year and [the fact] Manchester City and Chelsea and a few others are playing very well. ‘If we struggled and they win 6-0 it appears like a big gap.’
Klopp added: ‘There’s only one real assessment that counts and that’s mine. ‘That’s why I don’t do it directly after a game. If I’m angry it doesn’t help. Seeing it in the morning helps in the right way.’
Liverpool have won eight of their 11 Premier League fixtures this season and are yet to suffer a defeat outside of Europe.
