John Barnes suggests new Chelsea signing would have 'caused problems' at Liverpool

John Barnes believes Timo Werner may have ‘caused problems’ at Anfield had he joined Premier League champions Liverpool instead of Chelsea. Germany striker Werner was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool before agreeing on a five-year deal with Frank Lampard’s Chelsea. Barnes reckons it could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Jurgen Klopp. The Reds hero and former England international has suggested Werner would have been unhappy playing back-up to the likes of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. Asked about Liverpool’s options ahead of the summer transfer window, Barnes told Sky Sports: "I feel they should be strengthening the squad – not necessarily going out to buy a superstar like Chelsea have done with Timo Werner. Would Werner have been happy to come here and not play and cause problems because he wants to play? "I don’t think we’re going to go and buy superstars. I think we’re going to go out and strengthen the squad, but if you look at our best XI, I don’t think they’re going to look to upset that." Source: Metro
