Henrikh Mkhitaryan's exclusive interview to "I love Armenia" journal

Armenia international and Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan gave an interview to “ I love Armenia” journal. How would you tempt your teammates to visit Armenia. I would start describing the great many picturesque places of Armenia, by telling them about the rich history of our ancient country and, of course, I would introduce them to our traditional cuisine.If and when my teammates express a desire to visit Armenia, I’d be happy to host them and introduce them to my motherland. What places of interest would you show them when they visit Armenia? I guess I would start with Sevan, Khor Virap, Ejmiacin, Tatev, Garni, Geghard…. I wish more people could discover our culture and experience Armenia’s people’s hospitality. Although Armenia is a small country, tourism is currently growing fast. I hope people who come could see how amazing our country is. Which Armenian must try dishes would you recommend to your friends? My teammates often ask me about Armenian cuisine too., First of all I would treat them with Armenian barbecue, as well as khash,harisa,etc. I’d like everyone to try the dishes of Armenian cuisine and to understand that it is one of the bests in the world! Is there an Armenian dish that you make abroad? Scrambled eggs with tomatoes.(laughs) If you were to spend a couple of days in nature, where would you like to spend in Armenia? When I come to Armenia for a couple of days, it’s my home, where I can relax and have a rest and spend time with family. As for in the nature, I have many preferred spots from Tsakghadzor to Karabagh. What do you miss about Armenia the most while being abroad? First of all, of course I miss my family and friends. Sometimes I also miss Yerevan itself. Every time I come back to Yerevan, it gives me new energy and new strength, that helps me to reset, and carries me through the new season. Do you ever teach Armenian words or phrases to your teammates? Sometimes they ask me how one would say this or that in Armenian. I always gladly explain how to pronounce it correctly. Many of the teammates already use the greeting “Bari luys” or wonder how I am doing “Inchka?” and so on. During the games in European stadium do you notice Armenian flag and does it affect you? I am always happy to know that people come to the stadium to cheer me up. It’s incredibly pleasant to realize that Armenians are everywhere. In most cases I notice the tricolor and I try to give a signal somehow to show that I am thankful. It’s an incredible feeling seeing the Armenian flag waving at the big stadiums.  What kind of gifts do you take from Armenia to your friends? I take Armenian cognac brandy, basturma, sujukh, dried apricots. And as an ending: Any wishes to our readers and in general to the tourists who come to visit Armenia? I’d like anyone who visits Armenia, to take some unforgettable memories and emotions with them when go back home, so they could tell all their friends and families how there is this great country called Armenia, where people are warm and friendly, incredibly hospitable and civilized.
