QIPCO 2000 GUINEAS – (Saturday, 3.40)
Wembley and Battleground are leading contenders from Ballydoyle, but we fancy a minor upset with stablemate VAN GOGH. The son of American Pharaoh is currently trading at 10/1 with VBET – and that surely represents outstanding value. Aidan O’Brien’s colt was aggressively campaigned as a two-year-old and really caught the eye over course and distance last October, when an unlucky second behind One Ruler, who is much shorter in the Guineas betting. He then dazzled in the Criterium International at Saint-Cloud. Van Gogh has reportedly thrived during the winter and should be razor-sharp for the Guineas. It will be fascinating to see how he gets on competing on quicker ground. BET HEREWhat a rout! QIPCO 1000 GUINEAS – (Sunday, 3.40)
She might not be much of a price, but it’s hard to oppose hot favourite SANTA BARBARA. The Camelot filly has been touted as an ideal Guineas horse ever since she won so well over a mile at the Curragh in September. That was arguably one of the best maidens of last season but she made some potential Group horses look very slow indeed. Despite having the pedigree to stay farther than a mile, she clearly has lots of pace and is likely to have the time of her life on the brisk surface at Newmarket.
