Gareth Southgate SLAMS English fans for booing Joe Gomez

England national team head coach Gareth Southgate has slammed fans who booed Joe Gomez during Euro 2020 qualifiers against Montenegro. Liverpool defender has earlier been involved in a bust-up with Raheem Sterling. The latest was dropped for Montenegro match by the head coach. Gomez, who came on from the bench 20 minutes before the stoppage time, was booed by home fans.
"I don’t understand it, because no England player should ever be booed,’ said Southgate. ‘We’re a team and Joe has done nothing wrong, I’ve made that clear earlier in the week.”   "So I don’t understand that. Him and Raheem are very close and the whole team are very close so we don’t want to see anybody treated in that way.   “I’m sure [Gomez was affected], because as a young man, that’s an upsetting experience,’ continued Southgate. ‘For me, the reason for putting him on because he’s been with us September and October and we didn’t get him into the games and tonight was an opportunity to do that.   “It’s done, we move on. I’ve said what needs to be said, it’s for me now to make sure Joe is okay.”
