Fresh addition to Arsenal squad with player Mikel Arteta was not expecting

Arsenal squad could be freshened up before the transfer deadline day, as Mikel Arteta could have one of his loan players back at the club. Martin Odegaard and Mat Ryan have already joined the Gunners in the January transfer window. While several players left the club, Arteta could welcome one of the youngsters back at the club. Youngster Matt Smith has been on loan with Swindon, however, the Robins are hoping to complete a permanent signing before deadline day in the midfield area. The 20-year-old has played 27 games for the League One side this season, scoring once, but Robins boss John Sheridan has a decision to make when it comes to February 1. He told the Swindon Advertiser : "We’re in the process of trying to bring someone in to strengthen us and make sure we’re as strong as we can be in all areas. Possibly a striker, possibly another position. “I’m not a lover of having to leave two loans out on a matchday. For me, that doesn’t sit comfortably, so that’s an area I want to try and address in the best way I can. “So if it’s a striker or a midfielder, I’ll speak to Tyler Smith, I’ll speak to Jonny Smith or Matty Smith – it’s just a decision I’ve got to try and make."
