Jermain Defoe believes Tottenham Hotspur have everything they need to secure their first trophy since lifting the League Cup back in 2008 due to prolific front two Harry Kane and Son Heung-min and the presence of Jose Mourinho in the dugout. After 10 Premier League fixtures so far this term, Spurs currently sit top of the pile on goal-difference ahead of Liverpool. Defoe, who is currently on the books of Scottish giants Rangers, believes Spurs are edging closer and closer to claiming a long-overdue piece of silverware. "Of course they can. It's not me being biased, I'm just looking at the performances," said Defoe, speaking on Mennie Talks. "I'm looking at the performances and we have Jose Mourinho. People can say what they want, but we have Mourinho and we are playing the way we are, so anything can happen. I see a trophy coming anyway." For Defoe, the work Mourinho has done for Kane and Son since arriving at the club just over a year ago has been nothing short of "incredible." "With Kane and Son, what Mourinho has done has been incredible," continued Defoe. "Those two are the best partnership in world football at the minute. "I think it is Mourinho understanding the players that he has got. At the end of the day, you're not going to tell Harry Kane to run into channels. Play the width of the box like you do, you're good to do that, and just save your energy for when you get your chances. Son is dynamic, so he runs in behind. He gets the ball and he is direct, he beats people. "It's what Guardiola did at Barcelona, he played with the false 9 with [Lionel] Messi, with [Thierry] Henry on the left and [Samuel] Eto'o on the right. Messi is naturally going to come short for the ball, because he likes to get the ball and take people on, with Henry and Eto'o running in behind causing problems."
