Former EPL referee has given his verdict on Cakir’s vital decision during Llorente goal

Former Premier League referee Mike Halsey is sure Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente’s goal during Champions League quarterfinals second leg between Manchester City and Spurs shouldn’t have counted. Pep Guardiola’s side has been beating opponents 4-2 after a crazy first half, when teams scored 4 goals in just 11 minutes. It seemed Manchester City had the game under their control, when Tottenham got a corner kick and Fernando Llorente scored the controversial goal, which was then checked by referee Cuneyt Cakir for a long time. Halsey says Turkish referee hasn’t been shown the replay from right angle and can’t understand why VAR referees have been showing the episode from not the best angle. Former EPL official says the goal shouldn’t have counted, because Spanish forward leads with his arm, which affect the movement of the ball. In other words, if Llorente didn’t touch the ball with arm, he shouldn’t have scored the goal. Halsey added that next season, when new rules about handball will emerge, this kind of goals will be disallowed. https://twitter.com/amjadt25/status/1118628715452301317 Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is also keen to think that Cakir should have disallowed Spurs’ third goal. Ferdinand told BT Sports almost the same argument as Halsey did. The vital touch changed the speed of the ball and the movement of it. Tottenham finally managed to go through Champions League semi-finals as they will face Ajax Amsterdam.
