ESPN presenter Steve Dawson thinks Liverpool are now in a position to purchase the likes of Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne.
Jurgen Klopp's side were crowned Premier League champions for the first time after 30 years on Thursday after Manchester City lost to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
And Dawson has suggested that the Reds' recent success, combined with the fact they haven’t made a “big purchase for a couple of seasons” puts them in a strong position to go after world football’s best players. Speaking to the
Blood Red Podcast, he said:
“We can make purchases now that just blow everybody else out of the water, I’m talking about the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Kylian Mbappe.
“I don’t think it’s a secret, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that despite all the success we’ve had in the last two or three years and all the money we’ve made as a club, that we’ve only purchased players that are not going to hit the first-team for several years.
“We’ve not really made a big purchase for a couple of seasons now and I don’t think it’s any coincidence.”
The Belgian has been Citizens' most consistent performer this season with an average performance rating in the league of 7.88/10 (via
