Ernesto Valverde provides update on Ivan Rakitic's future amid Manchester United links

Rakitic scored in Barcelona's 1-2 defeat to Chelsea in the Rakuten Cup. The 31-year-old has been linked with a move to Manchester United. However, the midfielder claimed that he wants to stay at Barcelona. “My idea is very clear, I want to stay at Barca," said Rakitic. “[Transfer talk] is a situation I'm used to. It happened to me last year. “I've spoken with the club and the coach and we have the same idea, for me to stay at Barca. “We're open to everything, as always, but my intention is to stay. I have two more years on my contract and I want to keep enjoying myself at Barca.” After the game, Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde claimed that Rakitic is a good player but he has to win his place at the club as new players are coming, which might suggest that Rakitic may eventually decide to leave due to the lack of playing time. "Rakitić has been an important player, I don't know if he will be this season. New players are coming and he will have to win his place," said Valverde. via barcacentre
