What do the English clubs need to do in their final Champions League group game?

Two Premier League clubs and both from the same city have already qualified for the ⅛ stage of the Champions League. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City secured progression as they drew 2-2 at Lyon and are three points clear of the second-placed French side. Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United, meanwhile, qualified following a 1-0 home win over Young Boys. However, there are two teams, which will head into the final round of Champions League group games looking to secure a spot in the last 16. What do they need to do in their final Champions League games. Manchester United Jose Mourinho’s side are second in Group H and two points behind Juventus. The Red Devils will pass them into first if they win at Valencia and the Serie A club do not beat Young Boys away. Manchester City Group F leaders Manchester City will seal top spot if they draw their last match, at home against Hoffenheim on December 12, or if Lyon do not win theirs, at Shakhtar Donetsk. Liverpool Liverpool were on the final of last year’s Champions League campaign, however, the 2-1 loss at Paris Saint Germain left the Reds third in Group C, two points behind the French side and three behind Napoli. Liverpool will host Serie A side on December 11 and must win to have any chance of going through. Victory by more than one goal will ensure qualification, if PSG beat Red Star Belgrade away on the same night, Jurgen Klopp’s side will need a 1-0 triumph or victory by two goals or more, with other wins not sufficing. If the game in Belgrade is draw, The Reds will advance with any win, as it would leave them, PSG and Napoli all on nine points and Jurgen Klopp’s side would finish first on the three-way head-to-head. Tottenham Mauricio Pochettino’s side kept their chances alive with 1-0 win over Inter Milan at Wembley – they are now second in Group B, level on points with the third-placed Italians, while Barcelona are already through as group winners. Tottenham next face the Catalan Giants away knowing victory will send them through. Any result from that game that sees them match, points-wise, how Inter fare at home against PSV Eindhoven will be good enough.
