Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly close to securing the signature of 19-year-old Boca Juniors left-back Valentin Barco.
The young talent has attracted attention from various European clubs since making his senior debut in 2021. Barco, known for his attacking prowess, emerged as a regular starter during the 2023 season, contributing one goal and four assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.
He was part of the Boca Juniors team that reached the Copa Libertadores final last year. Out of contract in December 2024, the 19-year-old was previously linked with Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Juventus.
However, the Seagulls seem to have taken the lead in the race for his signature, with reports suggesting they are set to trigger his £7.9m release clause.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that an agreement is close to being finalized this week, and all necessary documents will be prepared in the coming days. A
Another report suggests that Brighton may allow Barco to join Argentina's Under-20 squad for the 2024 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament, delaying his potential debut until late February if La Albiceleste advances.
