Top seven clubs 'could miss 2020-21 League Cup'

The 2020/21 League Cup may be played without the Premier League's top seven clubs due to a pile-up of European fixtures, according to The Times. Champions League and Europa League dates for next season were announced by UEFA and two rounds are likely to collide with the England domestic competition. According to The Times, the English Football League (EFL) are investigating the implication of clubs being unavailable and would pursue a rescue package from the Premier League worth £250 million if teams voided the League Cup to prioritise Europe. An alternative would be to scrap the League Cup entirely. While the third option is for bigger Premier League clubs to field youth sides, as Liverpool did in December when their League Cup quarter-final against Aston Villa clashed with the Club World Cup in Qatar.
