Pep Guardiola has provided a positive update on Mateo Kovacic's fitness ahead of Manchester City's Carabao Cup third-round game against Newcastle United.
The Citizens celebrated a 2 - 0 victory over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League and will be heading to the EFL Cup game that takes place on Wednesday.
Ahead of the meeting, Guardiola has shared the latest news regarding Kovacic who has been out of action since the international break due to muscular injury.
Being asked whether the Croatia international will be available for the Carabao Cup game versus the Magpies, Guardiola said, via BeanymanSports:
“Soon! Tomorrow (Sunday) I think he is going to train with the team already. Today he makes a partial (recovery), but we didn’t take a risk with the injury that he had in the leg. This place is riskier than in other places. But tomorrow, he starts to train.”
