Manchester United re-starting their Premier League campaign on Friday, June 19 with a game against Tottenham Hotspur. Ahead of the game, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has faced the press.
Solskjaer started the conference with comments on Marcus Rashford. His campaign prompted a government U-turn that will see parents claim vouchers for about 1.3 million children in England during the summer holidays.
"I think it's an honour to have Marcus and what he's done during the lockdown has been unbelievable he can help so many kids, he's just shown he's taken from his own experience when he was a kid and knows how much it feels, means and we as a club are proud of him to be a top footballer but also a fantastic human being, future captain, leader, Manchester United, England, who knows... we're really proud of him and his family must be," Solskjaer said. "As his manager as well it's been fantastic to follow Marcus during the lockdown period, we got the Prime Minister to change his mind but also what he's done over the last months, Marcus is such a top, top human being, brought his own experiences and changed the lives of so many kids, he's already been captain of the club and he's proving all the time his human qualities and his qualities as a player of course."
Solskjaer will face Jose Mourinho's Tottenham on Friday, and speaking about rivals, the boss said:
"It's a great game, a big game against one of the best teams in the league, Champions League finalists less than a year ago, hard game, prepared as well as we can, we've had a couple of in house 11 v 11s and one 11 v 11 vs West Brom, which will hopefully stand us in good stead. We're young, they look fit and ready and we'll see tomorrow night."
The Norwegian also has given an update on Angel Gomes and Odion Ighalo.
"We're delighted Odion is staying with us, we had a good conversation with his club and he's made a great impact, very pleasing, another option, he's goalscorer, in and around the dressing room he's great. With Angel, he's a top kid we've had at the club for so many years, we've offered him a deal and hopefully he'll take that and if not I wish him all the best. From what I understand it's not too far away, if not we'll wish him all the best," he said.
Solskjaer confirmed two players will miss the game against Tottenham.
"We have two players probably Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe who will miss this game and the start, let's see how bad, but they are apart from that rest of the squad is fit and available. If selected Marcus and Paul have been out for a long long period, but they're available so how long they're going to play for, let's see," said Solskjaer.
In the end, the boss commented on rule change which will alow five substitutions instead of three.
"It depends on the games, I think three subs is the right amount and changing the whole five of them will prov happen because we have to look after players, long period, Premier League is intense, physically and straight into a season after as well, it's a good option for us not to get any unnecessary injuries, we have to look after them and take carer of them to use those periods."
