Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson thinks that Chelsea owner Todd Boehly should not allow the sale of Mason Mount to Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester United.
There have been rumors linking both Premier League sides with a move for the Blues' midfielder in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Earlier this week, The Athletic reported that Arsenal are determined to acquire Mount from their London rivals. Additionally, 90min claimed that both Mikel Arteta's side and Liverpool have shown interest in signing the 24-year-old England international.
Mount and Chelsea have been unable to reach an agreement on a new contract, leading to speculations over the player's potential exit. Manchester United have also been mentioned as a potential destination for Mount.
Amid the transfer links, Merson has explained why Chelsea should refrain from selling their academy product to rival teams.
“Chelsea face an uphill battle to finish in the top four next season, so they can’t afford to sell Mount to the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United or Liverpool, as they’d be strengthening one of their rivals," he wrote in SportsKeeda.
“He’s come to a bit of a standstill this season but he was Chelsea’s Player of the Year in 2021 and has a wealth of experience for a 24-year-old.”
