With just a few days until the 2023 summer transfer window opens, Newcastle United is expected to sign youngster Yankuba Minteh from Odense.
Eddie Howe, backed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), will be focused on strengthening the squad for the upcoming 2023/24 campaign, which includes a challenge in the Champions League.
Their first signing of the summer seems to align with the latter strategy. According to The Shields Gazette, Newcastle has reached an agreement with Odense for the transfer of their highly talented 18-year-old winger, Yankuba Minteh. The deal is reported to be around £5.8 million, with plans to loan him out for valuable experience in the upcoming season.
However, striking the right balance in squad depth will be crucial for Howe, ensuring that players are fresh when faced with a hectic schedule, especially if they progress to the latter stages of various competitions. Given the availability and price constraints of certain targets, Newcastle may need to consider alternative options and also look to invest in players for the future.
