Newcastle could face nightmare as star's injury throws Nottingham Forest match in doubt

Anthony Gordon's availability for Newcastle's upcoming match against Nottingham Forest hangs in the balance as he continues to recover from a recent injury setback.

The winger was substituted at halftime during last weekend's 4-4 draw with Luton Town, with Callum Wilson stepping in as his replacement. Following the match, the 22-year-old was spotted on crutches and wearing a protective boot, though reports suggest these precautions were taken as a safety measure.

Despite the initial optimism, Gordon has been unable to participate in training sessions this week due to ongoing discomfort.

Manager Eddie Howe provided an update to reporters, indicating that while the injury doesn't appear to be severe, the Englishman's absence from training raises concerns about his availability for the weekend fixture at the City Ground.

“He hasn't trained this week. But we don't think the injury is serious. We're hopeful he'll be back sooner rather than later.” the manager stated via the club's official X account.

Gordon's setback adds to the woes of a team already without key players like Alexander Isak, Joelinton, and Joe Willock, compounded by the absence of several other first-team members. However, there are glimmers of hope as Callum Wilson returned in the previous fixture, and Harvey Barnes marked his first appearance since September, offering some reprieve amidst the injury crisis.
