Brighton's manager Roberto De Zerby admitted that he wants to stay in the Premier League by confidently stating that one becomes the "master of the league" after exceeding 100 matches.
In his debut season at Brighton & Hove Albion, Graham Potter's Italian successor successfully guided the club to qualify for the Europa League for the first time in their history. The Seagulls finished the Premier League 2022/23 season at the 6th spot with 62 points, ahead of once-Champions League winners Chelsea and back-to-back English giants Liverpool.
“I love Italy, our football, because I’m Italian, I’m fine there [in England] now, never had a doubt about coming to Brighton. I get along very well with everyone at Brighton, there is no team that can change my mind, I have made a commitment,” said the 44-year-old in a talk with Bobo TV. The question regarding De Zerbi's future became quite popular after his success in England, with Serie A clubs hoping the skilled manager would make a return to Italy. He further explains that he will "hopefully" return to his homeland once an opportunity arises. But this will remain as part of his future plans.
Back to his assessment on the number of matches a manager needs to become a "master of the league", De Zerbi still has 68 more games to claim the title. In his first season in England, the head coach has managed 32 Premier League fixtures.
