Liverpool keep options open for World Cup star signing this summer

Liverpool's summer transfer activity has largely focused on bolstering their midfield.

With the new season approaching, the club is actively seeking a replacement for Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, both of whom are set to depart soon.

In addition to other midfielders who left the club at the end of the previous season, Jurgen Klopp is determined to reinforce his midfield options.

One player who has caught The Reds' attention is Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina. The Moroccan midfielder impressed during the 2022 World Cup, attracting significant attention during the January transfer window, and the interest has persisted into the current summer window.

The journalist Neil Jones has suggested that a move for Amrabat should not be discounted, as he could be a potential target to fill the void in the Merseysiders' midfield lineup.

“One defensive midfielder who’s been mentioned as being on Liverpool’s radar is Sofyan Amrabat, though that was a while ago now, shortly after his eye-catching performances with Morocco at the World Cup.

"My understanding is that the links at the time were not really serious – Liverpool were not really in the market for that type of player at the time, and I think their focus has mainly been on a younger version of someone in that role, such as Lavia, who could come in and be eased into that role,” Jones wrote in his column (h/t Caught Offside).
