Liverpool chiefs agree to drop out of the race for former target

Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool's new sporting director Jorg Schmadtke have come to the agreement to drop out of the race for Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg.

As per Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung the Reds' chiefs think that the 22-year-old defender would struggle in the Premier League at his career's early stage. Tottenham Hotspur, however, will now become the frontrunners to land the young player.

Despite de Ven's impressive stats at his parent club, there have been uncertainties over his abilities to match English football's high demands. The hardworking Dutchman has risen from the ranks of Volendam's academy and joined the Bundesliga side in 2019.

Talks between the player's club and Ange Postecoglou's side have been on-going for some weeks already. While undergoing squad revamps, the Spurs are hoping to land the Wolfsburg defender for £15m, but the German side's valuation is £10m more.
