"Is someone going to check?": BBC pundit amazed by how brilliant Chelsea star is playing at his age

Pat Nevin has made a light-hearted remark about Thiago Silva's age, suggesting that someone should check his birth certificate given how exceptionally well he's been performing for Chelsea.

It's quite remarkable that Silva, who recently turned 39, is still playing at such a high level. In an era where most players have retired by their late thirties, the Blues are fortunate to have a veteran defender of his caliber.

Silva delivered yet another impressive performance in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Premier League. Mauricio Pochettino can't afford to leave him out of the starting lineup, and the defender has played every minute in the league this season.

Considering the number of young players in Chelsea's squad, Silva's presence is even more vital at this time. The center-backs at the club must be thrilled to train and play alongside him.

BBC pundit Pat Nevin is astonished by what the 39-year-old Silva is achieving for Chelsea this season as he told BBC Sport. 

“Thiago Silva was probably the best player on the field [against Arsenal]," he said, via The Chelsea Chronicle. 

"Is someone going to check that guy’s birth certificate at some point? I had two new metal hips by his age after what football did to me!”
