Chelsea are nearing a deal with Birghton's goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
According to The Mail, the clubs are now in the stage of finalizing the fee after Sanchez has agreed personal terms with the Blues. The 25-year-old will arrive at Stamford Bridge to serve as a potential competition for N1 goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The Spian international has come a long way since graduating from the Seagulls’ academy, making it to the first team and also the Spain national team. He has been instrumental in the Birghton’s bid for European qualification, as they finished the seventh in the Premier League standings.
Sanchez has featured in 22 games and conceded a total of 29 goals but managing keep six clean sheets. However, recently, De Zerbi has started to reduce the 25-year-old’s appearances, making it more favorable for him to leave.
After a disappoint season and an extended period of unsatisfactory performance by Kepa and Mendy it had become an urgency to bring a new shot-stopper to Stamford Bridge. While it was believed that both of the players would leave Chelsea this summer, Mauricio Pochettino's arrival in the club changed the plans. Kepa Arrizabalaga remains the club's first-choice goalkeeper.
