Chelsea are facing difficulties to secure the future of their young player

Chelsea are reportedly facing challenges in securing the future of full-back Ian Maatsen and may be compelled to sell him when the January transfer window opens.

As per The Telegraph the London club has made no progress in extending Maatsen's contract. The 21-year-old spent the previous season on loan at Burnley under Vincent Kompany, and Burnley expressed interest in signing him permanently in the summer. Despite Chelsea accepting a £31.5 million offer from Burnley, the young player chose not to sign with them.

Recent performances suggest that Pochettino's side might have made a mistake in accepting Burnley's offer. Maatsen has already featured in six games and played a significant role under Mauricio Pochettino in the early stages of the 2023-24 season.

However, since the young defender's contract is set to expire at the end of the season, there's a risk of losing the 21-year-old on a free transfer unless they can persuade him to sign a new deal. According to the latest reports, this is proving to be a challenging task for the club.
