Arsenal are facing a fresh wave of injury concerns as they prepare for their Premier League showdown against Newcastle United on Saturday evening.
Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that Emile Smith-Rowe will be sidelined for weeks, adding to the list of unavailable players. Already ruled out for the trip to St James' Park were Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey.
The absence of these key players poses a significant challenge for the Gunners. The 23-year-old was initially expected to start in the recent Carabao Cup match against West Ham, which the Gunners lost 3-1.
Prior to this cup exit, Arteta also confirmed that the £90 million-rated duo of Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey would miss the match against the Magpies. The Brazilian had been recovering from a hamstring injury, which kept him out of the club's 5-0 win over Sheffield United last Saturday.
“He’s got an injury in his knee and he’s going to be out for weeks,” said Arteta after the game.
“With him, I’m honestly not going to put any because I did it once and got it totally wrong,” said Arteta, who was speaking ahead of the cup clash against West Ham United.
“We need to be cautious because we need to treat it in the right way. He’s already pushing everybody and wants to be back as quickly as possible, and we need him, so that’s great.
