Sky Sports commentators Seb Hutchinson and Don Goodman observed a notable surge of displeasure from the majority of spectators at Stamford Bridge towards a Chelsea player early in the second half.
The discontent reportedly stemmed from the ball being kicked out of play to allow for Anthony Gordon's treatment, leading to his early substitution due to accumulated knocks, particularly from Moises Caicedo, who received an early yellow card.
Caicedo, involved in the challenges causing Gordon's exit, frustrated the Chelsea fans when he deliberately put the ball out of play during their attack. The commentators highlighted the fans' anger, noting that several Chelsea players shared the sentiment.
Goodman said: “The home fans are absolutely furious, judging by their reaction,” to which Hutchinson replied: “So are his teammates by the way.”
The co-commentator then added: “I wonder if he thinks he has caused it. Very sporting.”
Despite Chelsea dominating possession, they struggled to create scoring opportunities until Mykhailo Mudryk scored in stoppage time. The Blues ultimately secured victory in a penalty shootout, with Djordje Petrovic making a crucial save.
