Demarai Gray has talked about his transfer to Everton and revealed how Rafa Benitez has managed to bring the best out of him.
The 25-year-old was Benitez' third signing after being confirmed as the new Blues manager in the summer, joining for £1.7m from Bayer Leverkusen following the arrivals of Andros Townsend and Asmir Begovic.
Gray has already scored three goals among a string of impressive performances on his return to the Premier League. The winger believes that Benitez's man-management style has worked wonders with his initial form, as he told
Football Daily:
"I would say it [the transfer] was quite smooth. Obviously you're aware, as a player, of interest and teams that may be a possibility and it was quite smooth.
"Leverkusen on their behalf made it simple, and the whole transfer was simple.
"That made it a lot easier, I knew of the boys here already from my U21s days. I spoke with the manager.
"He loves coaching, he loves coaching. All-round you have to coach a team and their tactics, but man-management and individual instruction is very good.
"That's done me good, having a manager that has faith and believes in you obviously helps. He's a good manager and I'm enjoying my time."
Gray believes he has great chemistry with one of his former England under-21 teammates, Dominic Calvert-Lewin. He said:
"Yeah I've played with Dom from the England days as well.
"He's a great athlete and over the last few years he's turned into a proper goalscorer. Me and him had good chemistry in the first few games we played.
"Over this season and the next few years, we'll contribute with a few goals and stuff for each other."
Gray also talked about Richarlison and his character in the dressing room.
He added: "Richy? Yeah he's a character, a crazy guy!
"He's just one of them guys that enjoys life and enjoys himself! He's a good guy."
