Dean Smith's blunt reply to Villas-Boas' 'pathetic' Aston Villa transfer bid for Morgan Sanson

Marseille manager Andre Villas-Boas went public this week to criticise Aston Villa's bid for midfielder Morgan Sanson. However, Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has refused to discuss the transfer pursuit. "We had a very, very weak offer from Aston Villa which we turned down. It was pathetic. I hope that he (Sanson) continues to remain professional," said Villas-Boas. Over in France, it is being reported that Villa will go back in for Sanson with a second offer for the 26-year-old. Villa had a bid - said to be worth €13 million and €3 million in add-ons - rejected this week. French journalist Nabil Djellit, of France Football , is reporting that Marseille would like a guaranteed fee of €17 million (£15 million) for a player once valued at around €35 million. In his press conference today, though, Smith was asked the following question by Sky Sports' Rob Dorsett: "The transfer window is open and I totally appreciate it if you don't want to talk about other players but Andre Villas-Boas has told French TV that there's been a "weak and pathetic offer" from Villa for Morgan Sanson. Do you want to reply to that?" And Smith replied: "No, not really." The head coach was asked about the Marseille man before the game with Manchester City, and simply said: "There’s a lot of players that I like and I'm never name-checking players that are associated with other football clubs so unfortunately no (I can’t comment). "I think I’ve always said that this is going to be a quiet window for us. Our plans are already looking forward to the summer window and what we’re going to do there. But we’re never going to turn our noses up at a good value deal to bring a player in. There’s the possibility of some outs as well."
