Chelsea have been handed a major transfer boost as they are reportedly able to sign Xavier Mbuyamba from Barcelona for free this summer. The Dutchman has been branded as the next Virgil van Dijk.
Mbuyamba joined Barcelona last summer from MVV Maastricht, signing a four-year deal intended to keep him at the club until 2023. However, reports from Spain suggest that there will be no room for Mbuyamba in the Barcelona B squad next term.
According to Sport, the centre-back will not be offered a new deal and will be allowed to leave for free this summer, despite having three years left on his contract.
Chelsea are one of several clubs who have been linked with a move for Mbuyamba. AZ Alkmaar, Juventus and Inter Milan have all been credited with interest while Real Madrid are also said to be monitoring the situation.
