Chelsea boss Frank Lampard willing to sell five players to raise money for new signings

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is ready to sell up to five defenders in the current window to make place for new signings, according to transfer expert Ian McGarry. The Blues require improvement at the back after conceding more goals than any other team in the top half of the Premier League this season. Leicester and England star Ben Chilwell has been targeted as the No 1 choice for the left-back position by Lampard. Lampard is also reportedly eyeing West Ham's Declan Rice as a potential long-term centre-back. McGarry says current members of Lampard's defence are up for sale. He said on the Transfer Window podcast: "You would have heard us speak on numerous occasions about Frank Lampard's desire to ramp up his defence and therefore the purchases of Ziyech and of Timo Werner, and the potential arrival of Kai Havertz, do not fulfil the particular roles of augmenting the defence. "It's our information that Lampard is willing to sell up to four of possibly five of his current defensive players including Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen, Emerson and Marcos Alonso." "I don’t know what will happen with [Fikayo] Tomori, but I think they need a big guy. You saw what happened with Liverpool when they got Van Dijk, he changed everything. Even [Dejan] Lovren and [Joe] Gomez looked better alongside him. “You need a big guy to make sure he’ll lead the defence. Look at [Sergio] Ramos. [Raphael] Varane is a fantastic player, but is he still the fantastic player when he plays for France as when he plays for Madrid with Sergio Ramos? He’s better with Real Madrid. They [Chelsea] need a big guy in the centre of defence, yeah.” Source: Express
