Champions League: Fantasy Football Dream Team of the week

Two breathless nights of Champions League action have left us speechless. Under-fire Jose Mourinho and Manchester United revealed in an incredible smash and grab victory at Juventus, while Real Madrid continue their revival and Cristiano Ronaldo watches on as his magnificent volley counts for nothing. Barcelona are the first team into the round of 16. Barcelona drew 1-1 with Inter Milan– but even with Lionel Messi ruled out before kick-off, they still pushed hard for the victory that would have sealed top spot in the group. (1-1) Tottenham stayed in contention in Group B when, after trailing to PSV Eindhoven for most of the game, a late Harry Kane double secured a 2-1 win. Red Star Belgrade stunned Liverpool with a 2-0 victory, although the Reds were somewhat bailed out by Napoli drawing 1-1 with PSG to keep things tight. Thierry Henry’s Monaco were humiliated, going down 4-0 at home to Club Brugge, while Atletico Madrid got revenge on Borussia Dortmund with a 2-0 victory, a fortnight after their 4-0 thrashing. Porto and Schalke continue to lead the way in Group D after wins over Lokomotiv Moscow and Galatasaray respectively. Bayern Munich also look set for the knockout rounds, beating AEK Athens 2-0 at home thanks to a Robert Lewandowski double, while Group E rivals Benfica and Ajax shared a 1-1 draw. Manchester City are now in pole position in Group F, after hammering Shakhtar Donetsk 6-0, partially thanks to a Gabriel Jesus hat-trick, with Lyon drawing 2-2 with Hoffenheim in the group’s other match. Real Madrid looked back to their best under new boss Santiago Solari, thrashing Viktoria Plzen 5-0 in Group G, where Roma also won - 2-1 away to CSKA Moscow. Manchester United came from behind to beat Juventus- previously unbeaten this season in all competitions - with a 2-1 victory in Turin. With Valencia beating Young Boys 3-1 in that group, Juve still have work to do to qualify. Let us take a look who impressed and made it into Champions League Dream team of the week by VBet Fantasy Football. Ethan Horvath (Club Brugge) Horvath was on form to help Club Brugge to an impressive 4-0 victory away at Monaco. The 23-year-old has recently been called up to the USNMT. Filipe Luis  (Atletico Madrid) The veteran defender helped his side to a clean sheet in Atletico Madrid’s 2-0 victory at home to Borussia Dortmund. Kostas Manolas (AS Roma) Roma pulled off a very good win against CSKA Moscow, with Kostas Manolas opening the scoring after just four minutes. Brandon Mechele (Club Brugge) Brandon Mechele helped his side to beat Monaco 4-0 and climb to four points. He completed 14 of his 18 passes in the game and recovered 5 balls. Mats Hummels (Bayern Munich) Mats Hummels alongside with Jerome Boateng made a superb duo. They didn’t let AEK take a single shot on target and managed to end their attacking efforts with ease. Hummels played more defensively, winning 7 out of 10 duels. Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City) The Algerian international winger was at his sublime best in City’s 6-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday evening. Mahez provided the assists for the first and last goals of the game, and the former Leicester City stat scored one himself with 6 minutes on the clock. Mahrez now has 3 goals and 3 assists in his last 5 games for the Citizens. Milan Pavkov (Red Star Belgrade) On his first Champions League start of the season, Milan Pavkov carved his name into Red Star folklore by scoring both goals in their 2-0 win against Liverpool. Pavkov scored from his only 2 attempts on goal during the entire 90 minutes. Lorenzo Pellegrini (AS Roma) Lorenzo Pellegrini stepped up for Roma in the Champions League. The midfielder scored one goal and set up another as Roma beat 10-man CSKA Moscow 2-1 on Wednesday to close in on a spot in the next round. Toni Kroos (Real Madrid) The German’s metronomic passing had the Czech side chasing shadows for most of the game and Kroos provided assists for both of Real’s first two goals at the Doosan Arena. Kroos got in on the act himself in the second half, firing home the game’s fifth and final goal on 67 minutes. Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City) The Brazilian scored his first two goals from the penalty spot and completed his hattrick late on, converting an injury-time Riyad Mahrez pass to claim the match-ball. Jesus’ trio of strikes were his first City goals since late September. Karim Benzema (Real Madrid) Benzema scored his 200th and 201st Real Madrid goal during their victory in the Czech Republic.
