How Callum Hudson-Odoi reacted to shock England call-up

The 18-year-old Chelsea ace had only just been selected for Under-21s duty for the first time but was surprisingly drafted to Gareth Southgate’s first-team squad. Hudson-Odoi is yet to make a start in the Premier League but impressed England chiefs with his performances in the Europa League and was ‘delighted’ to be named in Southgate’s team. "It’s been a crazy day," he said. "Obviously, getting my first international call-up today is an amazing feeling, definitely. It’s been a very long day for me because I had to travel to Bristol first for the 21s and then getting told I had to come over here to St George’s  for the first team – it was a crazy experience. I’m delighted to get the call and it’s a nice feeling to be here. " Asked how he reacted to the news, he smiled: ‘To be fair, I thought the manager was joking. "I thought he wasn’t telling the truth, I was shocked. And then I heard I actually had to go over I couldn’t believe it, I was delighted. It’s a dream come true to get the call-up to the national team. I have to work hard, enjoy every moment and just keep working hard and hopefully I’ll make an impact when I play or if I get the opportunity to train hard and work hard. Everybody here is very humble and very nice. They all make sure you’re comfortable. No one has an ego here. Hopefully I’ll get to know more of the boys here."
